OSS Session 2: Making dollars and sense as a consulting historian

Making dollars and sense as a consulting historian

In the second OSS Session for 2025, Katherine Sheedy discusses the business of being a historian.

She writes, "When I started Way Back When with friend and colleague Sarah Rood 20 years ago, we embarked on a journey as small business owners as well as professional historians. In this session, I will use my experience to share some of the critical aspects of being a consultant: business planning and logistics, building your brand, writing a good proposal, pitching your ideas, project and resource management, tendering and costing, the balance of working on the business and working in the business, and juggling jobs and workflow.
