Call for Papers - Marking Time
/MARKING TIME - CALL FOR PAPERS
Professional Historians Association National Conference
Hosted by PHA NSW & ACT in conjunction with Professional Historians Australia
Sydney, 30 – 31 August 2018
Professional historians record the history of places with direct connections to the public: in parks, on monuments, at exhibitions, in archives and publications. 2018 is the culmination of the four-year long commemoration of World War I and therefore a fitting time to reflect on the challenges we face as professional historians interpreting sites, places and events that become surrounded by myth and emotion. The conference organisers are calling for papers which consider those challenges. We welcome submissions that consider the place of memorials, changing attitudes to marking historical events and the historian's role in creating and defending the evidence base for commemorations. The conference will explore the changing ways we mark time and interpret events through traditional and new media in the 21st century.
The NSW & ACT PHA Executive Committee will review and select papers. Places in the Conference program are limited. If you are successful you will be notified by the end of April. All speakers will be required to cover the cost of the conference registration.
Papers may be eligible for the Professional Historians Association’s refereed journal Circa.
THE DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS IS MONDAY 26 MARCH 2018
